welcome
Dear Friends,
Welcome to my website. Here you can find regularly updated information about issues important to our District, as well as my work in the New Jersey General Assembly.
It is an honor and privilege to serve as your representative in the State Legislature. Working with my district 15 colleagues—Senator Shirley Turner and Assemblyman Reed Gusciora—I have sought to fight for increased levels of property tax relief, tougher laws against criminal street gangs, better educational opportunities for our young people, and improved health care for senior citizens and working families.
The new state budget for fiscal year 2008 reflects these priorities. The budget not only avoids any tax increases, it cuts taxes by $330 million - including an expanded Earned Income Tax Credit for working families.
Roughly half of the state budget will be spent to hold the line on property taxes. This includes larger rebates for working households and tenants, more state aid for municipalities, and increased funding for local public schools. Roughly $16.7 billion will go to property tax relief - nearly a $2 billion increase over last year’s budget.
Property taxes remain the number one issue for New Jerseyans and this budget directly addresses residents' concerns. With 50 cents of every dollar going to lighten the burden shouldered by local taxpayers, this budget provides more property tax relief than any other fiscal plan in state history.
My legislative activities have involved more than fiscal affairs. I also have worked in recent months on the following issues:
Passed a law moving New Jersey’s presidential primary to February 5—one of the earliest contests in the nation.
Established a State Comptroller to combat corruption and government waste.
Co-sponsored the most aggressive legislation in the country to fight global warming and greenhouse emissions.
Supported a package of bills to better serve our aging military veterans.
Helped advance legislation to improve the state services and programs for autistic children and adults.
I am committed to serving the community and I welcome input from District 15 residents. Whether it is legislation or a local constituent issue, please feel free to reach out to my district office.
I look forward to hearing from you and as always, thank you for allowing me to serve as your elected representative.
